Some edited responses to the emails

Here are some of your thoughts on the updates, culled at random from Joc's Inbox:

Thanks so much for the updates, which are so informative and written at a time when you are under so much stress. I hope you know how much they are appreciated.

Thanks for the most recent update. JH, I love your keeping us so well-informed on Joc's progress but I so enjoy your personal style of putting the story over and telling it with such a great sense of humour.

IT IS SO GOOD OF JOHN TO KEEP US ALL UP TO DATE ON YOUR PROGRESS AND WE APPRECIATE THAT VERY MUCH.

…and thank you, so much, for the incredible chronicle of this process that you've graced us with.

Thank you for the amazingly detailed and loving descriptions - this medical history of Jossies transplant will be good reading for her too - once she has recovered

And H, stay on whatever it is you're on. Your undisguised joy brought tears to my eyes, as well as your news.

Helena Jared and Jade are here at the moment and the children hope you will get better soon. I show them your e-mails and photo's each time they come.

Dear Joc and John, It has indeed been a pleasure to read John's account of your transplant...You are both so brave, but the thing that has touched me the most is the love that is shared by you, and the fact that John is not ashamed or stuck in his masculinity. He tells the world of his love for you and does it with a tough gentleness that is rare these days. God bless you both.

Dear John, It is absolutely amazing I have just opened and read your latest bulletin, and am flying over cloud nine for you both or should I say all.

Hello John, I look forward to hearing from Joc in person, but I must say, I'll miss getting your superbly skewed perspective on things.

Hi John People are clamouring for your emails with pictures attached, and why not, they have been excellent and so well written. On todays PBC digest from the USA group people are asking for pictures as is the person who sent the email below.

Thank you for keeping us informed, we really look forward to your "Bulletins" You are both constantly in our thoughts.

Also thank you John for your very funny accounts of Joc's recuperation! It's great to hear of her progress, but my young sons' favourite bit was about Leah's boyfriend fainting! My 6 year old did a great job of impersonating him in an impromptu drama skit!

Dear John, I have just finished reading all your letters and amid tears and smiles I just have to write and tell you they were just so emotionally moving and at the same time funny some times I had a tear in my eye and a smile on my face.

John's bulletins are very entertaining and puts a warm smile on something that, I'm sure, is more harrowing than he makes out. He's a fantastic support.

Appreciate very much the up dates on Joc's recovery. Thank you for the time you spend passing on all the info

Do you or "JH" have plans to post all the recent postings together?   I would love to print them off, to read & read again, they had an effect on me that I can't explain, but I had every feeling going when I read them!

Even though we don't know each other like some of you do, I still feel connected to you and the other ladies (and gentlemen ), because of the e-mail.

What can I say ..........you write beautifully. I feel like im reading a serial of some kind and look forward to the next instalment everyday. I am soooooo happy for super Joc, she looks fabulous in the photos. Please continue to write us, I think its fantastic and its also a kind of therapy for you too.

John Your emails have been inspirational and so vivid; everyone on your mailing list will be feeling as though they've been there with you. I'm just astounded by the whole thing.

Hello John, Thanks for the wonderful pictures and hilarious commentary on how you are all faring.

THANKS TOO TO JOHN FOR THE REGULAR UPDATE ON YOUR PROGRESS & FOR THE WONDERFUL PHOTOGRAPHS.

I for one have thoroughly enjoyed your up dates, I think that you are telling it just the way I remembered from my tx in 2000.

From a 63 year old lady in FL, loved your lettesr about Joc' transplant--wishing you all the best and prayers for you both.

...thanks for the ''mailbombing'' as you call it - I for one cannot get enough information on Joc.

We hope that you can keep mailbombing with the milestones of Jocs recovery (and your's!!) Thank you for the great reports.

Dear John Thank you so much for including us on your email list and keeping us informed of Jocelyn's progress. Your wonderful sense of humour also comes through.

The continued good news, and your wonderful writing, are incredibly welcome. Thanks so much. You two should write a book about this, perhaps alternating chapters between your viewpoints...It's a subject of very wide interest, and you're both such warm and engaging people.

Thanks H for the update - you are quite poetic - we certainly enjoy your obtuse angle on things.

Debbie is keeping me updated with the good news, I only wish I hadn't read the descriptive part of your message so close to eating a meal.

Dear John, Thank you for this wonderful e-mail. I am absolutely amazed that you are able to find the time and the energy to type this out, however am very grateful. I feel like I was present in the ICU with you. I read this and had a tear in my eyes. Jocelyn is obviously a very blessed person.

There must have been some very harrowing times but throughout your emails have been informative with just the right amount of humour and seriousness to let us all know exactly how things were fairing...just present it to the unit for future relatives of liver transplant patients to read. Not all families and patients have the optimism and wit of you and Joc - it may provide them hope and a break from the system.

I also think JH is a true example of a wonderful spirit showing unconditional love, who happens to be a very entertaining and humorous writer in his tales of Joc. I only wish I had been printing the journals every time as I have laughed out loud and cried with him. This is a beautiful story and I hope he has been saving all his daily records for her to read years down the road.

I've also passed on to them the site with John's informative updates on your condition. Just maybe that will also help generate more organ donations and financial support for PBC research.

JH's tales of ward life bring back memories of my month at RPA although his descriptions are so full of humour and entertaining. Just love your style JH.

I've enjoyed your husband's updates immensely. You are both very lucky and blessed to have each other.

Thank you a million for your fabulous bulletins re Joc's recovery. I'm totally amazed by what is happening to her and happy she's going home next week. Glad to see that you are maintaining your sense of humor through all of this. I am really enjoying your up dates and was wondering if you are keeping copies for Jocelyn to read down the road?

JH
