We got the call around midnight, and arrived at the hospital about 45 minutes later. There were fewer tests than we expected, lots of blood samples and swabs, and then Joc + immediate family had a relaxed, even happy few hours in an empty ward.
About 5.30 friend Viv who couldn't sleep brought over coffee and munchies, 6am the chaplain-person arrived and said it was all systems go, the donor liver had checked out A-OK.
At 8.15 Joc was wheeled into the sterile zone and we waved our au revoirs.
I am at home having a shower and some coffee. The day seems GOOD and unnaturally bright and clear. Maybe it's the tears.
Have just (9.50 am) got my first phone call to say the prep is finished and they are about to start. Op time is anything from 6 to 24 hours, average about 12.
The Hospital will update us by phone very four hours or so, at major milestones, but we will be back there this afternoon anyway.
Prayers, cosmic vibes, crossed body parts, can't hurt.
Love, JH.
